Affliction Warlocks - Trash mobs and you!

In an attempt to keep this blog well rounded for everyones benefit, I'm going to switch gears today and make a post about how I successfully deal with trash mobs.

Trash mobs? What are those?

I really hope you know this without me saying...but just in case you don't...

Trash mobs are pretty much those mobs you fight between bosses. Usually they are in groups of 2 or more which pretty much makes them AOE friendly.

Its a common preception that Rain of Fire is THE spell for Warlock AOE...and I'm here to tell you...no. It sucks. Really. At least for affliction. The mana drain is causes combined with its insuperiority to our other spells makes it the least used item on my action bar.

Insuperior? To what!? How dare you say that about my precious Rain of fire!

Seed of Corruption. This spell is NASTY, and with a much better damage out to mana used ratio.

Now, this is of course depending on the amount of trash mobs around in a group. My general rule is simple...2 mobs or less, do one on one damage (AOE is a waste of mana for such little groups)...3 or more...target one..Seed of corruption..while its casting...tab to target the next mob...cast Seed of corruption on that one..while its casting..tab to the next mob..rinse and repeat.

You will quickly notice that your AOE #s reach the 10 thousands in most situations (the more mobs around..the higher your numbers will be)..making you very likely top AOE for a spec most say is only usefull on boss fights. Just keep your finger on the soul shatter button JUST IN CASE. If your tank doesn't know what to expect, you're going to pull massive aggro at an alarming rate.

I really think this is one of the most underused spells in our arsenal, and I think it comes from a long history of misconceptions over Rain of Fire being uber awesome. It can be, but not for affliction.

And just to wrap this simple post up...I'll also give a little raid boss tip for ya....

Seed of Corruption is also VERY usefull in boss fights where there are adds or a sudden need to do massive AoE. The 2 examples that stand out the most to me are the Gluth fight in Naxx (It makes quick work of the zombies after decimate)...and XT in Ulduar (bots swarming in? They aren't immune to it!).

So use it..abuse it..and sit in awe as you see the massive improovment to your AoE, and proove once again that locks are good for more than just soul stones, health stones, and summoning.
