Affliction Warlocks - Demons Demons Demons!

You may have noticed a slight curve towards the affliction spec in my posts...thats mostly because its what I play. This doesn't mean I won't be touching on any of the others, it just means I know more about this than I do over demon and destro.

Affliction Warlock Demons
Which ones best for YOU!

As an affliction warlock, its a common misconception that demon selection is less important than it is for the other specs. Obviously on the surface it will seem less important to say...demonology (duh), but by no means should minion selection be a passive decision. Lets examine each one and break it down to how they're usefull for raiding..

Some say its a useless demon for affliction, I say they're crazy. It's not a DPS powerhouse, but in a situation where you have a weak tank, the blood pact stamina boost comes in handy (its not a HUGE boost, but sometimes it makes the difference). Fire shield is also slightly (but really not very) usefull spell, but best to keep it on passive as it can overwrite other buffs from other players.

DPS weakling, but a tank. Why could this be usefull for raids? For the most part..its not. However I've been known on more than one occasion to have used my voidwalker to tank the 4 Horsemen fight in naxx (10 man)..thus freeing up at least one more DPS to help burn down the other mobs faster. It's really simple...have your VW tank one of the mobs in the back, you tank the other..have the healer keep you both alive (not that hard as those mobs dont hit hard), and then when 3 stacks of your debuff are there, switch sides with your minion. Easy.

THE DPS minion for Affliction. She hits hard, real hard...at the cost of being spongey. If you plan on using her, make sure you are talent specced with anything that will boost your lash of pain. Personally I almost never use this one, due to her being at high risk of dieing. More powerfull demons are useless if they're dead, but that's just my personal opinion.

My personal demon of choice. Although it may not do as much DPS as the Succubus, it lives a lot longer, and your healers will praise you for the Fel Intelligence buff (mmm...mana). Aside from those factors, it has a few handy lil abilities such as Devour magic, and most important of all...Shadow Bite.

Affliction? We dont have one. Moving on.

Remember him? I've lost count over how many Warlocks I've come across who seem to forget that this guy even exists...most likely because they were too lazy to get his summoning ritual. Its easy. do it.....really.

Rant aside, this guys a badass. Want to see your DPS for a boss fight go thru the roof? Doomguard. Sure they nerfed him a bit in 3.1, but he's also now down to a 30 minute cooldown (down from an hour). And even after said nerf..he's still really DPS heavy. His rain of fire should be on passive for the most part (depending on the fight of course), and just make sure your tanks are aware that you're bringing this beast out so they don't freak out over the aggro meters.

Another forgotten hero. More powerfull than a doomguard, but at the cost of him only lasting a minute after summoning. The GOOD news is that you can now summon this beast "indoors", and his SUMMON itself creates damage/stun. I normally use this demon at the last 10% of any fight, or in a case where my other minion has died and we need good push to beat an enrage.

In the end, as I said in the beginning, it's all dependant on what boss youre fighting as well as the group you are with..and their abilities (or lack there of). Get to know your raid, and go from there...the extra effort you put forth to this decision will benefit you in the end. Trust me :)
